Contents Page Analysis

This is a contents page from NME. One large image is the focal point for the readers, drawing them in and attracting them to the main article of the magazine. The graphology of the page is clear, simple and easy to navigate. Having the articles listed down the side, makes the page seem much less cluttered, and organised. Large advertisements are used to hook the reader in to the magazine "SUBSCRIBE TODAY". That is an imperative acting as an order to the audience.  The purpose of a contents page is generally to inform the reader of what they have paid for, after all the hook for buying the magazine is generally the front cover. However from looking at this page and other similar contents pages, it seems they try and catch the audience long term, as they still advertise the magazine, "UK'S NO 1". NME's colour scheme is continued in the contents page, making the magazine flow and seem coherent. The band index makes the magazine seem professional and exclusive, as it has managed to feature such important bands. This contents page lists many articles including additional items "PLUS" this makes the reader seem satisfied with their purchase, making them more inclined to buy it again. I shall use many of these devices for my own contents page.
